WFMU Meets Fundraising Goal
Jersey City, NJ's WFMU-- world renowned for their vast web presence, eclectic programming, and a roster of innovators and obscurity specialists-- reached it's fundraising goal last night. This is especially significant considering the damage sustained by the station during Sandy, during which Jersey City flooded. They held a small fundraiser in the wake of the storm, but this, as station manager Ken Friedman mentioned on air last night, will help fortify the station. Since WFMU is exclusively supported by listeners, the annual marathon is the only mechanism to ensure that WFMU continues to run, with past marathons being to devoted to upgrading antennas and maintaining web infrastructure. This one will help build a new studio. You can still pledge if you please.
In case you missed it, you can hear Newark mayor, Corey Booker, do Star Trek trivia on Tom Scharplings show last Tuesday. It starts about nine minutes in.
