Rockstar Games have consistently done a killer job curating soundtracks for their video games, like when they prominently featured Jamie Lidell's "Compass" in the climax of Red Dead Redemption. Or pretty much every radio station in the Grand Theft Auto series. But nobody could've seen this one coming: L.A. noise pop kings HEALTH are in the process of composing the in-game score and to Rockstar's latest title, Max Payne 3, out May 15.
In addition to the score, HEALTH are recording bonus tracks to be featured on the soundtrack. Here's a statement from the band, via a press release:
"Video games are redefining entertainment and whether people like it or not, they are becoming as culturally relevant as films. We feel that Rockstar's projects have an undeniably raw and tasteful aesthetic. It's vitally important to us that we be involved in things we respect artistically. Max Payne 3 has a complex story that unfolds mercilessly and we are excited to be a part of it."
Here's the premise of the game: Max Payne, a former NYPD cop, is a security guard for a wealthy Brazilian industrialist. When that industrialist's wife is kidnapped, Payne goes on the hunt. And then, as we gather from the trailer, everybody shoots everybody. Max Payne 3 will include the franchise's Matrix-like "bullet-time" action sequences, where you can see every bullet go through your enemies in slow motion. To the tune of HEALTH!
